Dekoron Cable effective and efficient for plant operations    April 2009

Dekoron Wire & Cable are the innovators in Instrumentation. Technology to improve signal transmission, shielding, and custom designed cables have allowed Dekoron to bring to market products required to effectively and efficiently run plant operations.

Dekoron Instrumentation Cables, available from Maser Communications, are used in many plants throughout the world to transmit information between sensors, analysers and control rooms. Dekoron innovations in insulation and shielding provide protection for cables from electronic noise and interference that could interrupt accurate information being transferred through the plant.

Dekoron Thermocouple extension cables utilise a solid alloy wire conductor in applications requiring precise temperature measurement and control for process plants.

Dekoron control cables are essential to maintain a quality control system in harsh environments of process control. Dekoron control cables maintain system integrity and durability in challenging environments and applications.

Specialty Cables for extreme applications, which include fire resistant, cold weather, dual armor, circuit integrity, armored fieldbus and zero halogen are also developed and manufactured.

Cables with up to 100 conductors or conductor groups and continuous lengths of 10,000 feet are also possible. All conductor groups can be shielded against electromagnetic interference by the use of proper shields and drains.

Materials are sourced from high quality, reliable and competitive materials. Inventory is maintained or sourced through short-lead times and supplier stock programmes.

Thermoset and thermoplastic materials are used for cable insulation. To assure clean and accurate signals back to the control room, aluminum, copper, and bronze shields are applied to individual and groupings of cable.

An additional layer of protection of armor is added depending on the applications. This includes Served Wire Armor (SWA) for physical protection where cut through resistance is necessary, and Interlock Armor (aluminum or galvanised) for mechanical and cable core protection.

Dekabon Moisture/Chemical Barrier is applied to provide chemical, crush and vapour resistance and protection against moisture. The addition of Dekabon ensures cable suitability for direct burial applications and abrasive backfilling. Paired with a drain wire,

Dekabon also acts as an electrostatic shield which provides protection against lighting.

Thermoset and thermoplastic jackets are used for first and second jackets within the cable. Jackets can be easily removed with a nylon ripcord for field stripback and terminations.

All Dekoron products are manufactured to high quality standards. All cables are subjected to electrical inspection after twisting, bunching, jacketing and armoring.

Alpha Wire Introduces Flexible Servo Cables               April 2009

The new Series SF flexible servo cables from Alpha Wire offer increased flexibility for connecting  power between the supply and servo motors, drives, and controllers. A flexible thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) jacket and PVC/nylon insulation make the cable suitable for flexing applications that require continuous movement. Superior flexibility and a tight bend radius of ten times the cable’s diameter also make installation easier.

The UL Listed cables meet the requirements of NFPA 79, allowing them to be used in industrial machinery applications such as machine tools, pick and place equipment, Cartesian and articulated motion control, and automated material handling systems.

To meet a range of power requirements, Series SF cables are available over an 18 to 8 AWG (0.96 to 8.5 mm2) conductor size range. The cables are available in both power and composite cable configurations.  The Series SF power cable has four conductors for power and ground. The Series SF composite power cable adds two twisted pairs for use in braking control, temperature monitoring, or other control/monitoring uses.  To provide excellent EMI protection in noisy electrical environments, the cables are shielded with a combination foil and tinned copper braid.

“The new Series SF gives users a more reliable and easy-to-use way to connect servo power,” said Mike Dugar, Senior Product Manager at Alpha Wire. “Users want more flexibility to make installation and startup faster, as well as increase long-term reliability.  Series SF does all of that, while maintaining the rugged performance needed for industrial machinery.”

Series SF flexible servo cables are rated for 600 volts and meet the UL requirements for TC-ER and WTTC applications and CSA for AWM I/II A/B. They are oil and sunlight resistant.  The new Series FL flexible servo cables are members of the Alpha Wire Communication, Control, & Industrial product family.
